I don´t think Outside should be on this list. Yes it´s a bit slow in places, but it was his first album in over a decade where Bowie actually tried something different. Compare it to Never Let me Down and Black Tie, white noise, at least it´s different and a step in the right direction. I think that had he edited Outside down by about four tracks, then it would be a very listenable c.d.
I agree with Justin Time, Outside is by no means a bad album. It doesn’t belong on here.
It´s hard to say which is the worst album. Tonight at least has ´Loving the Alien´ which is a decent pop song, whereas Never Let Me Down doesn´t even have a catchy number. However the rest of the tracks on Tonight are so forgetable that I have to say Tonight is the most boring album.
Hmmm… whomsoever made this poll has very bad taste indeed. If you think about it, compared to contemporary albums by other atrists, ‘Never Let Me Down’ and ‘Tonight’ are actually fairly decent albums.
I agree that ‘Black Tie White Noise’ has some awful moments, however it has some amazing songs on it too. ‘Pin Ups’ makes me vomit (I’ve never been able to listen to it) and it sounds crappy compared to other 1973 albums.
1. Outside is a genuinely genious album, and I have no idea why any sane persons would think it bad. Although I do feel the 3 hour jam sessions for the album should be released!
Well David, I’m glad you at least agree that Pin Ups should be on the poll.
The irony is that Never Let Me Down is Bowies biggest let down. Believe in DJS, you say that Tonight is the worst despite having what you call ‘a decent pop song’ ie Loving the Alien. Surely the fact that it has one vaguely memorable song, makes it better than Never let me down. I honestly couldn’t name one song off the top of my head other than day in day out, which I’d say is a bit worse than Loving the alien, but comparable to Blue Jean. Never Let Me Down has absolutely nothing else going for it, it is his poorest album.
At least ‘never let me down’ isnt a cover album. ‘Pin ups’ is worst.
Yes pin ups is worst AND has the most horrible cover photo…which is saying something.
My mate at work who´s old enough to remember Bowie in his prime, told me that after buying Pin Ups he was so disillusioned and felt so robbed that he never bought a Bowie album again. Yes it´s shite. Also think Young Americans is a steaming pile of plastic crap.
