Eponymous “Heroes”
There is a select band of real people who can boast their name in a David Bowie title. Perhaps Blue Jean, Aladdin Sane, Nathan Adler, Baby Grace, and Joe the Lion are based on non-fictional persons, but let’s concentrate on the certainties. So which is the most listenable of the following?
Tags: Andy Warhol, Bob Dylan, Bowie-Muse, Letter to Hermione, Mime Artist, Pablo Picasso, Starving for me gravy, The Beatles and the Stones, The Merseys
I hate to say it but bowies covers are usually shit.
I was always disappointed that Bowie never chose to cover the only musician greater than himself: Cliff Richard. Cliff spanned 5 decades, has proven beyond doubt that he can write a tune and even had a dance ‘hit’ under a pseudonym. If only David had covered ‘Living Doll’… Or even ‘Mistletoe and Wine’. It would be better than ‘Little drummer boy’ anyway… Failing that I’d settle for a cover from that Bredon duo ‘Mother of a thief’. Not sure which one would best suit david’s vocal style though. Any ideas?
p.s. Stewart, I don’t have a copy of ‘I pray, Ole’ anymore. Can you sort me out? Missing this little number.
